About MoorArt

A gallery built around artists, audiences and making.

MoorArt is an independent contemporary gallery in Ashburton. It combines exhibition space, visible artistic practice and a programme that gives people reasons to return.

Why we exist

Good art should be seen. Making it should be visible. Taking part should feel possible.

Many artists struggle to find affordable physical space. Many galleries separate the finished object from the human work behind it. Many people like art but feel galleries are not made for them.

MoorArt tackles all three. Artists can propose work without paying a display fee. Visitors can see work being made. Workshops and gatherings turn a visit into participation.

Our principles

01

Contemporary, not exclusive

Serious work, clearly presented, with language that welcomes people in.

02

Fair to artists

No display fee. Terms agreed up front. Work handled carefully and returned as promised.

03

Made in public

The studio is part of the gallery, so process and finished work sit side by side.

04

Useful to Ashburton

A regular place for making, conversation and creative contact, not an occasional event.

Exhibit. Make. Meet. Repeat.

Changing work, visible practice and a consistent events programme will give MoorArt a rhythm. You can browse for ten minutes, stay for a conversation or return to build a skill.
